THE CHEETAH, FOUND IN THE EASTERN CENTRAL, AND SOUTH EASTERN PARTS OF AFRICA, IS THE FASTEST LAND ANIMAL YET. ONE HAS BEEN CLOCKED AT A SPEED SPRINT AT THE MOST OF 80 MPH. CHEETAHS CAN RUN AT THESE SPEEDS ONLY FOR SHORT DISTANCES.
THE CHEETAH IS ONE OF TWO OF THE MOST SOCIAL OF BIG CAT SPECIES, THE LION IS THE OTHER. UNLIKE THE LION, CHEETAHS DO NOT FORM PRIDES. SIBLING MALES SOMETIMES STICK TOGETHER FOR LIFE AND SHARE EACH OTHER'S KILLS. FEMALES AND THEIR CUBS STAY WITH EACH OTHER UNTIL THE CUBS ARE AT LEAST 14 TO 16 MONTHS OLD. THE NOW MATURE CHEETAHS, STAY WITH EACH OTHER AND IN TIME GO ON THEIR SEPARATE WAYS THEM SELVES. A MATURE CHEETAH WEIGHS UP TO 130 lbs. WITH OUT THE TAIL THE CHEETAH IS ABOUT 5 ft. LONG. AN ADOLESCENT FEMALE STILL TOO YOUNG TO FEND FOR HER SELF MAY BE ALOUD TO JOIN A FAMILY OF A MOTHER AND CUBS BY THE MOTHER UNTIL THE ADOLESCENT CAT IS OLD ENOUGH TO FEND FOR HER SELF.
